How to become a Christ-Follower

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR POSITION BEFORE GOD

The Bible says that everyone has sinned, and that no matter how good we are, we don’t measure up to God’s standard of perfection (Romans 3:23, Isaiah 53:6). The outcome is spiritual separation from God (Romans 6:23).

1

BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST

Believe that Jesus Christ, who was God in human flesh, paid the penalty for your sin through His death on the cross (Romans 6:23). He was raised three days later, conquering death (1 Corinthians 15:3-5). His actions solved your sin problem by becoming your substitute (1 Peter 2:24, 3:18).

2

EXPRESS YOUR BELIEF THROUGH REPENTANCE & FAITH

Repentance involves turning away from sinfulness (Acts 3:19). Faith means placing your trust in the promises of God through Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31).

Following Jesus

Once you say “Yes!” to Jesus, you begin a lifelong journey of following Him. We want to come alongside you as you get started on this journey!

Here are a few next steps that are essential in the Christian life.

BEGIN TO MEET WITH GOD THROUGH SCRIPTURE

God is a person, and He wants to speak with you, guide you and draw you close to Himself. The Bible is God’s Word (references), and so daily time in Scripture is vital to hear from Him. The Gospel of John is a great place to start.

BEGIN TO MEET WITH GOD THROUGH PRAYER

Prayer is simply talking to God. It is our lifeline to a healthy relationship with God (references) and is essential if we want to grow close to Him.

2

BEGIN TO MEET WITH GOD THROUGH COMMUNITY

We are not meant to follow Jesus alone - in fact, we can’t follow Jesus alone! All throughout the New Testament (some verse references), believers in Jesus are called to gather regularly to worship Christ and be equipped to live a life pleasing to God.

If you aren’t a part of a gospel-preaching church, we’d love to see you this Sunday!
